Pinta 新作《ELLO》入围2019翠贝卡国际电影节

日前,美国纽约翠贝卡国际电影节(The Tribeca Film Festival)官方宣布,由中国动画公司平塔工作室出品(以下简称Pinta),苏昊丹导演的原创VR动画作品《ELLO》入围了2019翠贝卡国际电影节VIRTUAL ARCADE单元,《ELLO》也是本单元唯一一部入选的中国作品。这是Pinta继《拾梦老人》、《烈山氏》连续入围威尼斯国际电影节之后,再一次入围国际电影节。Tribeca电影节的Tribeca Immersive(翠贝卡沉浸)单元是全球VR沉浸影像领域最顶尖的VR展映单元,也是全球最顶级的VR创作者选择推出新作品的全球舞台,每年4月底在纽约召开。通过全球的征选,从成百上千个项目中选出最具备前瞻性、艺术性和故事性的项目进行展映。


《ELLO》用新技术语言关注孤独与希望


《ELLO》是Pinta第三部原创VR动画作品,是一个讲述“孤独与希望”的故事。ELLO(主角)独自生活在宇宙角落的一个小星球上。为了让别人知道自己住在这里,他修建了一个大型的霓虹灯广告牌,希望借这微弱的光亮能够吸引到其他人的注意,可日复一日的等待和期盼,却从未得到过任何回应。Pinta的第三部VR作品,在流畅叙事,探索细腻情感的同时,融合了多种新的交互方式,譬如观众对主角的关心程度,决定了交互的结果,并可能在一定程度上影响到故事的发展走向。Pinta在不断探索和突破VR叙事类动画体验的边界,这也是Pinta完成从最初关注“重拾梦想”(《拾梦老人》)、倡导“勇敢自我”(《烈山氏》),再到“续航希望”(《Ello》)的情感延展。

《Ello》的导演苏昊丹于2017年加入Pinta Studios,参与VR动画作品《烈山氏》的故事板创作。(该作品曾入围75届威尼斯国际电影节)在此之前,苏昊丹曾在追光动画先后参与了《小门神》、《阿唐奇遇》、《猫与桃花源》等多部作品的故事板创作,有着丰富的电影前期开发经验,并于2016年开始,正式负责追光第四部动画电影《白蛇:缘起》的项目开发和剧本创作工作。

“翠贝卡仍然致力于将新技术的力量作为讲故事的动力载体,”Tribeca电影节电影与沉浸式高级程序员劳伦·哈蒙兹(Loren Hammonds)说。“今年的节目涵盖了多种类型,包括许多全球首映VR、MR和AR体验。”VIRTUAL ARCADE单元,由来自9个国家的17个项目,其中有15个项目全球首演,组成了这个充满活力的项目,《ELLO》也是本单元唯一一部入选的中国作品。

March , 2019 - The Tribeca Film Festival, presented by AT&T (in New York City) officially announced that the VR animation work, “Ello” produced by Pinta Studio has been chosen as an official selection to for the Tribeca Immersive Virtual Arcade. 


<ELLO> write the story of loneliness and hope with the new audiovisual language


“Ello” is Pinta’s third VR project, a little sweet story about loneliness and hope. Ello, who lives in a corner of the universe alone gardening his loving planet and maintaining the only billboard day by day expecting it will draw other’s attention. An unexpected disaster ruins all and makes Ello into deep despair, yet, another unexpected spaceship travels through his planet. In this VR animation, while fluent narratives and exploring delicate emotions, a variety of new ways of interaction, such as the audience's interest in the protagonist, determine the outcome of the interaction, and may affect the development of the story to a certain extent. Pinta is constantly exploring and breaking through the boundaries of the VR narrative animation experience. From the initial focus on “regaining the dream” (“The Dream Collector”), to advocating encouraging the ego in “Shennong: Taste of Illusion,” and “continuing the hope in “Ello,”, it is also Pinta’s emotional extension. 


Su Haodan, the director of “Ello” joined Pinta Studios in 2017. She was the storyboard artist in “Shennong: Taste of Illusion” which was selected in the 75th Venice International Film Festival VR Competition. Su is the generalist in animation film with experience. She was the storyboard artist in “Little Door Gods,” “Tea Pets” and “Cats and Peachtopia,” also the project leader in the project development and story creation of “White Snake.”

“Ello” is also the only Chinese work selected in this unit.
